St. Peter's Residence at Chedoke is seeking casual Recreation Programmers to join their team!

St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke is a not-for-profit 221 bed long-term care residence located in Hamilton’s Chedoke community. Built in 2004, the home has seven terraces accommodating 30-32 residents on each. 

St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke offers quality care in a home-like environment, nurturing body, mind and spirit. Staff deliver care and services based on individual care plans that emphasize best practices and resident-centered care.

As a casual employee, you are required to provide a minimum availability of at least 2 shifts per week + every other weekend.

Shifts Include:
•    8:00am-4:00pm
•    12:00pm-8:00pm

Position Summary:

Provide therapeutic recreation programs that improve and maintain the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of 30 to 60 long term care residents residing on one or two assigned 30-bed Terraces at St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke.

Employment Guide:

  • College diploma in Recreation or Gerontology as a field of study from an Ontario postsecondary institution or a postsecondary diploma, degree or certificate granted from another jurisdiction that the home reasonably believes is equivalent.  
  • May require post graduate Therapeutic Recreation Certificate and/or equivalent.  
  • Strong knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease, and other dementias, as well as other chronic health challenges (e.g. MS, Parkinsons, stroke, mental illness…)
  • Proven ability to design therapeutic recreation programs.
  • GPA-Gentle Persuasive Approach in Dementia Care
  • Above average empathetic, listening and reflective skills.
  • Strong leadership skills that are customer-service focussed in keeping with the "Care Culture" of St. Peter's Residence at chedoke.
  • Well developed time management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities
  • Competent personal computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office…)
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
