Position Summary:

The Director of Care (DOC) is a key member of the home’s leadership team, reporting to the Administrator of each home and clinically accountable to the Senior Director of Clinical Practice at Thrive Group. The DOC is primarily responsible for the administrative and operational leadership of nursing and personal care services, ensuring compliance with the Fixing Long-Term Care Act (FLTCA), 2021, professional standards, and Thrive Group policies.

 Working in close partnership with the Director of Clinical Practice (Nurse Practitioner) of the home, the DOC provides leadership, guidance, and support to Resident Care Supervisors, Registered Nurses (RNs), Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), and Personal Support Workers (PSWs). Together, this integrated leadership dyad ensures high-quality, resident-centered, and evidence-informed care while advancing clinical programs and supporting attending physicians.

 The DOC is expected to be a system thinker and transformational leader who can coach and inspire care teams, foster a culture of continuous quality improvement, and build coalitions with external partners. Supported by the Thrive Group Centre of Excellence in Healthcare Innovation, the DOC has the opportunity to contribute to sector-leading initiatives, pilot promising practices, and strengthen long-term care through research and innovation.

Employment Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) (required).
  • Post-secondary degree in Nursing; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience in long-term care, complex continuing care, or another healthcare setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 (FLTCA), regulations, and relevant professional practice standards.
  • Strong background in administrative leadership, including staffing, scheduling, budget oversight, and quality improvement processes.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and support interprofessional teams, including supervisors, RNs, RPNs, and PSWs.
  • Experience partnering with physicians, nurse practitioners, and allied health professionals to advance resident-centered care.
  • Recognized as a transformational leader and system thinker, with demonstrated ability to lead change and innovation in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Experience building coalitions and partnerships with external healthcare organizations, community stakeholders, and academic partners.
  •  Familiarity with specialized programs for medically complex residents and/or residents with complex cognitive and behavioural support needs.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Familiarity with PointClickCare, RAI-MDS, and electronic health records is an asset.
  • Must successfully complete a Police Check, Vulnerable Sector Screening, and medical clearance.
  • French language skills are considered an asset.
