We are currently hiring a Resident and Family Advisor to join our team. This position will offer you a competitive wage, paid orientation and on-going professional development opportunities. 

Position Summary:

Working as part of the St. Peter’s Residence leadership team, this position assists with the provision of therapeutic counselling for residents and family members.  The position assists with intake assessments and prepares admission assessment reports to inform the development of individualized care plans. The position works as part of the interdisciplinary team, collaborating with family members, nursing teams and external health care providers to support the physical and mental well-being of residents. The position assists residents, families and external health care partners with transfer and discharge planning and acts as an advocate for the residents and their families.  The position assists with the provision of resident, caregiver and employee education initiatives and best practice approaches to seniors’ care.  The position participates in resident and family councils as requested and supports leadership to build and sustain a healthy, productive and engaged work-place culture.

Employment Guide:

  • Must be a registered member of Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) without terms, limits or conditions.
  • A Social Service Worker diploma or related discipline, along with two years of experience in a similar role are requirements for this position.
  • An asset to be registered with the Ontario Association of Social Workers
  • Must have previous knowledge of psychological theories, family dynamics, aging processes and behaviour management techniques.
  • Prior experience working in a geriatric, rehabilitation or long-term care home preferred.  Must be able to work within legislation pertinent to the operations of a health care facility, such as those governed by Public Health, Mental Health and Residents’ Protection Acts, as well as the Long Term Care Homes Act.  
  • Must demonstrate a sound understanding of and empathy for the needs of seniors and their families.  
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to integrate good human relationship skills and professional standards into resident-centric practice.  
  • Must have well developed problem-solving, conflict resolution and decision-making skills. Must demonstrate flexibility and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.  
  • This position requires successful completion of a Police Check, Vulnerable Screening Check and Medical Check.  
  • A current Ontario driving license and reliable vehicle are also requirements of this position.   

Job Type: Full-time, permanent (37.5 hours/week)
