POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, this position is responsible for regular monitoring and provision of support to clients to enable them to remain in their own homes and live as independently as possible. Duties include monitoring, observing, assisting with and participating in housekeeping and homemaking activities, recreational and social activities. Such duties are carried out under the direction of the client or alternate decision maker and in accordance with Client Service Contracts, laws and regulations governing service provision.
EMPLOYMENT GUIDE:
- High school education.
- Prior experience or knowledge of providing support services for people with disabilities and/or seniors an asset.
- Certification in health and safety and first aid preferred.
- Experience working with persons with a disability and/or seniors is an asset.
- Experience providing housekeeping services on a paid or voluntary basis either in a work setting or through personal life experiences is beneficial.
- Communicate using effective and appropriate verbal, listening, written and nonverbal communication methods required including effective reporting of observations audio.
- Problem solve and make decisions by identifying alternative solutions and approaches to problems; be aware of, and perceptive to reactions of others and apply good judgment/reasoning ability in decision making processes.
- Plan and organize work within limited framework and perform tasks according to priority assigned to various categories of tasks by someone else; perform tasks that may be disrupted.
- Utilize basic math skills to complete time sheets and other documents, use measurement calculations to measure quantities such as ingredients for cleaning products, and use numerical estimation when planning time to complete various routines.
- Must demonstrate high commitment to providing exceptional customer service and be empathetic, reliable, punctual, and capable of managing time effectively.
- Be flexible to adapt to a variety of individual preferences and lifestyles, personalities and alternate forms of communication.
- Perform duties within the Independent Living Philosophy.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including: pulling and pushing objects, continuous walking and standing, operating some mechanical technological equipment, i.e. wheelchairs and household appliances.
- Ability to develop supportive relationships and work collaboratively with clients, family members, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners are essential.
- Must be able to take direction and work independently as well as part of a team.
