We are currently hiring a Full-Time Therapeutic Recreation Programmer to join our team at our Bethany Residence program in Burlington.

Under the direction of the Program Coordinator or designate, this position is responsible for planning and leading the implementation of life skills and recreation programs as identified by individual clients’ needs and goals. This position collaborates with internal staff and community partners for a holistic approach to programs and services. This position assists in evaluating the effectiveness of programs and implements changes as needed.

Requirements: 

  • Must possess a Developmental Services Worker diploma, Social Services Worker diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary diploma in a recreational therapy program is considered an asset. 

  • May be required to pursue needed knowledge and/or certifications such as bliss symbols and/or sign language.

  • One year of related experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of life skills programs or equivalent.

  • Experience working with seniors and people with disabilities is an asset.  

  • Must demonstrate competency levels in the following areas:  the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Foster, enhance and maintain an effective teamwork environment; take action in an urgent or emergency situation;

  • Apply training methods and procedures appropriately;  Identify alternative solutions and approaches to problems;  Demonstrate a positive and solution-focused approach, act in a respectful manner, listen to requests, be supportive of opinions and contributions of others and accept and provide constructive feedback in a considerate manner;

  • Respond diplomatically and show sensitivity to issues raised; 

  • Be creative/inventive; Demonstrate excellent planning and organizational skills and be flexible to accommodate the needs of others;

  • Demonstrate qualities such as reliability, punctuality and accountability in areas of services provided, and as a member of the organization’s team.
